At least for Marsha Treacy who is the only female hot air balloon pilot participating in Freedom Weekend Aloft along with 59 other pilots from around the country this weekend.
Marsha earned her pilot license in 1983 and is one of a handful of women that fly corporate sponsored balloons for a living. She first participated in Freedom Weekend Aloft in 1985 flying the Oldsmobile Hot Air Balloon and has attended the event for years rating it one of the country’s best hot air balloon festivals. …more

Our 2011 flying season has begun and this weekend we head to Louisville, KY to participate in the U.S. Bank Great Derby Festival Balloon Race. We’ll be flying the State Farm Hot Air Balloon for SkyCab Balloon Promotions in the 38th annual Kentucky Derby Festival Great Balloon Race and 18th annual U.S. Bank Derby Festival Great Balloon Glow.
Previously recognized by Louisville Magazine as Louisville’s “Best Event,” U.S. Bank Derby Festival Great Balloon Race and 18th annual U.S. Bank Derby Festival Great Balloon Glow are two of the marquee events of the Derby Festival schedule, in addition to newer ballooning events, the U.S. Bank Great Balloon Rush Hour Race, U.S. Bank Great Balloon Lift-off and U.S. Bank Great Balloon Tour.
These five great events take place the weekend before the Kentucky Derby and attract tens of thousands of spectators to Greater Louisville. In 2010, crowds estimated at more than 75,000 turned out for these family-friendly events.

The following is the first of a regular column appearing on BalloonPong that will spotlight successful and innovative events and balloon marketing programs. Balloons have a variety of applications in the world of marketing and here we will explore some of the programs and events that make the Business of Ballooning successful.
In February 2011, a team from Aerosports Inc. took two Super Bowl branded balloons to Dallas, Texas to fly and tether in the area leading up to the championship game. This is the second time the NFL contracted with Aerosports Inc. after a very successful 2008 campaign in Phoenix. The team battled snow, ice, and wind at nearly every inflation this year to earn excellent media coverage and a very pleased customer. More..

Well, we’re back from Texas and a great Super Bowl XLV week of what turned out to be some of the most extreme ballooning we’ve done in a long time. Neither snow, nor sleet, nor freezing rain could keep us from inflating the beautiful Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers hot air balloons at NFL and Super Bowl events.
Randy and I along with Tim at THC Associates send out a BIG thank you to our team for all of their hard work and determination in Arctic -like conditions. Pilots Kevin Flanagan and Sean Askren who can command a balloon in any situation, to Amy Askren for hundreds of magnificent photos, Sandy Graf for local logistic help and the willingness to help with anything else. Luck was on our side that Louisville pilot Matt Clinton just arrived in Dallas to do his college internship and Hector Ramos on hiatus from Napa Vally, CA provided the best crew help anyone could ask for.

Super Bowl Hot Air Balloons Dallas, TX
Another very cold and breezy day in North Texas as we head into Super Bowl weekend but our team inflated the Super Bowl Hot Air Balloons outside the NFL Experience at the Dallas Convention Center. Fans are making their way into the area and the local communities of Ft Worth/Dallas are doing everything to make sure folks get a warm Texan welcome.
